"Silence Had Fallen"
The painting titled “Silence Had Fallen” is part of the “Is There Life on Earth?” installation. It features seventeen animals representing species that have gone extinct during the ‘sixth mass extinction’, an ongoing extinction caused specifically by human activities. A projection with changing colours shines upon the painting to create an illusion of movement. The idea for this illusion was inspired by the subjects themselves and an idle fantasy of seeing these animals move one last time. The subjects of the painting have different, almost human-like facial expressions, and each one represents a different attitude towards not just death, but also the idea of facing the ultimate end.
